SUSAN & JOE MAZZA
A POWER COUPLE
As citizens of Saint John’s, Susan and Joe Mazza “walk the talk.” Since moving to the Central Tower from Sturgeon Bay in 2012, the Mazzas have generously contributed their time and talent to the betterment of the community.
Susan is an avid and knowledgeable gardener. Moving to an urban high rise from a lakefront home with a yard and ample opportunity to get her hands dirty, Susan was left with a void. She quickly found her way to the Garden and Landscape Committee, the Plaza and an abundance of weeds just waiting to be pulled. As Committee Chair, Susan has worked alongside our Groundskeeper planning beds and selecting plants. She has single-handedly planted countless bulbs providing us with glorious and much appreciated spring color.
Susan volunteers in the Chapel reading and arranging flowers. She has served as chair of the Dining Committee and has been active on Resident Council, first as a Floor Rep then two years as Vice Chair and another two years as Chair. During her tenure, she sought to create a sense of community among residents.
Not to be outdone, Joe contributes from his professional experience as an Episcopal priest. He filled in for over a year as Interim Chaplain and now actively supports The Rev. Jana Troutman-Miller. In partnership with Dick Bradley, Joe ensures evening prayers are offered 7 days a week along with Evensong on Sundays. He fills in for Jana on Wednesdays offering mass, co-leads Fridays’ lectionary Bible study, reads for Sunday mass and offers the chalice at communion.
Joe is active on other committees, past and present – Dining, Green and Emotional Wellness have all been the beneficiaries of Joe’s enlightened experience. He also edits More of Our Story, participates in Our Next Generation and joins Susan working in the gardens.
While far too humble to be called a power couple, the Mazzas make a difference by giving of themselves.
